There are other ways…

In Australia, an often expressed view is that suburban and car led growth and development is what people want and the only realistic way cities will grow. Yet all over the world, communities are demonstrating alternative models to these very successfully. Here are just a few examples taken randomly in a few minutes trawl through recent social media content:

“Ditch the car? Dying suburbs revived by walking” here, from CNBC

“Groningen: the world’s cycling city” here

“Arlington Strikes Walking Gold in a River of Highways and Pentagon Sprawl” here

Even in Adelaide, there is a report of the move to green living Here So how can this be?

Perhaps this item sheds some light on this apparent disconnect between this belief and these examples?
